Under the guidance of orthopedic physicians, researchassistants will design, implement and disseminate retrospective andprospective research studies. The MRC is a highly productive research divisionwith multiple regional, national and international presentations andpublications annually. This is a great opportunity to get extensive researchand clinical experience in a busy pediatric orthopedic surgery department.Prior research assistants have gone on to MD, PA and PT graduateprograms.The responsibilities of a Research Assistant II may include datamanagement, medical record abstraction, detailed knowledge of researchprotocols, presentation preparation, recruitment of study participants,management of IRB protocols and timely communication with research team.This position is associated with the Musculoskeletal Research Center (MRC)within the Orthopedics Institute at Children's Hospital; specifically tosupport ongoing clinical research associated with the general orthopedicprogram. While it is considered an entry level research assistant position,priority will be given to those with at least 2 years research experience pasttheir bachelors degree in the sciences or engineering. Excellent MS Officesoftware skills required; knowledge of research software such as RedCap orother project management software preferred.Research assistants are expected to work with clinical staff,biostatisticians, engineers and researchers in the MRC/CGMA. Researchactivities may include performing literature reviews, completinginstitutional review board (IRB) applications, conducting chartreviews, consenting patients, conducting research visits for datacollection and entry, and writing manuscripts. Research collaboration withother specialties is very common. Qualifications expected of applicantsinclude proficiency in reading and writing scientific literature, use ofMicrosoft Office, and an understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy andphysiology.
